The town of Wukari in Taraba state on Friday played host to the 2026 edition of the Jukun Youth Day celebration, drawing cultural enthusiasts, traditional leaders and youths from across the region in a display of heritage and unity.
The event, held within the revered Kwararafa Kingdom, was themed “Rooted in Culture, United in Diversity: Jukun Youth for Peace and Development.”

Participants adorned in traditional attire showcased dances, music and symbolic performances that reflected the rich history of the Jukun nation, believed to be descendants of the ancient Kwararafa Confederacy, a once-powerful alliance that dominated parts of the Middle Belt.
Speaking during the event, community leaders spoke on preserving cultural values in the society.
They urged youths to remain committed to peacebuilding, community development and the protection of their heritage.
Jukun Youth Day, an annual cultural gathering, is traditionally held in Wukari, regarded as the spiritual and political headquarters of the Jukun people.
The town serves as the seat of the Aku Uka, the paramount ruler, and remains a central point for major cultural festivals and royal ceremonies.
