Ojumo Ire: Haraka haraka haina baraka (Meaning: Haste, haste has no blessings)

By Damilola Adeyera

Swahili Proverb

Haraka haraka haina baraka.

Translation

Haste, haste has no blessings.

What’s the Lesson?

Life is not a race in which the fastest person necessarily emerges victorious. Sometimes, the desire to achieve everything quickly becomes the very reason we fail to achieve anything meaningful.

There is wisdom in taking deliberate steps, exercising patience and allowing things to develop at their proper pace. A hurried decision can destroy an opportunity that patience would have helped us preserve.

Success is not merely about how quickly we arrive at our destination but also about the quality of the journey and the wisdom acquired along the way.

Do not confuse speed with progress. A person who moves slowly with direction may accomplish more than one who runs without a clear destination.

Learn to respect the process. What is built with patience often stands longer than what is rushed into existence.
