You may not believe this, but there is a place where leaving Nigeria’s capital city and entering another state can happen in just about one minute. Welcome to the surprising connection between Abuja and Nasarawa, a journey that begins with a short border crossing but gradually unfolds a perfect experience of nature, landscapes, and hidden tourism treasures.
The statement that “Abuja is one minute away from Nasarawa” sounds almost impossible until you experience the route yourself. It does not mean the entire journey through Nasarawa takes one minute, rather, it discloses how close the Nasarawa border is to the Federal Capital Territory.
For many first-time travelers along the Nasarawa route, the real surprise begins immediately after crossing into the state. What follows is a beautiful display of nature, stretching landscapes, green fields, and peaceful scenery that makes the journey more than just transportation but such an interesting sightseeing experience.
One of the most eye-catching features along the route is the presence of short, beautifully shaped evergreen trees that look remarkably like Christmas trees. These attractive plants, including cypress trees, Thuja, and young Casuarina trees, add a touch of beauty to the environment, standing elegantly across some of the greenest landscapes along the highway.
Beyond the popular image of Abuja as Nigeria’s capital city, known for its modern structures, impressive developments, and landmarks such as Aso Rock, Nasarawa presents another side of Nigeria’s beauty, a side filled with natural landscapes, open spaces, and tourism possibilities waiting to be explored.
With a land area of about 26,256 square kilometres, Nasarawa is a vast state with diverse scenery and opportunities for tourism development. Its closeness to Abuja gives it a major advantage, providing residents, visitors, and adventure lovers from the capital with access to natural attractions and peaceful environments that deserve greater recognition.
The journey through the Abuja–Keffi–Akwanga–Lafia–Makurdi corridor reveals why Nasarawa should attract more attention from tourism lovers. The route combines improved infrastructure with beautiful surroundings, creating a travel experience where movement and sightseeing come together.
A major infrastructure hit along this route is the Loko–Oweto Bridge and its link road project, which was initiated during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan around 2011. The project was designed to strengthen the connection between Nasarawa and Benue States, improve transportation, and reduce travel difficulties for road users travelling within the region. It was later completed during the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Today, the quality of the road adds another layer to the travel experience. Some sections remain so neat and well-developed that travelers may easily assume they were recently constructed. The smooth movement provided by the road infrastructure allows visitors to fully appreciate the natural beauty surrounding the route.
Nasarawa may share a very close boundary with Abuja, but its identity extends far beyond being a neighbouring state. It is a destination filled with landscapes, greenery, culture, and untapped tourism potential.
