Otunba Wanle Akinboboye is set to introduce some of Nigeria’s most celebrated actors who will lead the much-anticipated epic blockbuster series, So Long Odigbose, as production continues on the historical project.
The movie series, which recently commenced production, is the cinematic adaptation of the popular Odigbose stage drama that has captivated audiences across Nigeria and international stages for years.
Moving beyond the theatre experience, So Long Odigbose has been expanded into a bigger screen production with over 50 additional scenes that were not featured during the stage performances, giving audiences a deeper exploration of the characters, events, and historical realities behind the story.
Set over 400 years ago, the epic production takes viewers into an era that shaped the destiny of many African communities , an era of kings and warriors, courage and betrayal, love and sacrifice, as well as the determination of a people to protect their heritage against overwhelming challenges.
The transition from stage to screen is a new chapter for a story that has remained powerful for years, bringing its message, cultural significance, and historical relevance to a wider global audience.
At its core, So Long Odigbose reflects the struggles of African kingdoms, the impact of foreign intrusion, the battles for survival, and the resilience of communities determined to preserve their identity and traditions.
Driven by the vision of Otunba Wanle Akinboboye, whose passion for African culture, tourism, and heritage continues to inspire projects that showcase the continent’s stories, the production seeks to present African history through an authentic African lens.
The screenplay is being developed by renowned UK-based screenwriter Tunde Babalola, combining historical depth, emotional storytelling, and cinematic creativity.
