Otunba Wanle Akinboboye has met with stakeholders and members of the Nollywood production crew ahead of the filming of Odigbose, a historical movie centred on Africa’s painful experience during the era of the transatlantic slave trade.
The meeting brought together key members of the creative team to discuss the story, its historical background and the vision behind bringing Odigbose to the big screen.
Speaking during the meeting, Otunba Akinboboye explained that Odigbose is rooted in one of the darkest chapters in African history, the period when millions of Africans were captured, sold and transported from the continent as part of the transatlantic slave trade.
He noted that the story seeks to go beyond the commonly told narrative of slavery by exploring the circumstances and events that led to the enslavement and transportation of Africans, as well as the human experiences behind the historical account.
According to him, the movie is an attempt to use the power of cinema to preserve African history and ensure that younger generations understand the realities and consequences of the slave trade.
Otunba Akinboboye stressed that African stories must be told from an African perspective, particularly stories that have shaped the identity, culture and history of the continent.
The Odigbose project is therefore positioned not only as a cinematic production but also as a historical and cultural project, bringing together entertainment, education and heritage preservation.
The meeting with the Nollywood stakeholders and crew was aimed at ensuring that the production team fully understands the historical context of the story and the responsibility that comes with portraying such a significant period in African history.
As preparations continue, the production of Odigbose is expected to draw attention to the history of the slave trade while using the Nigerian film industry as a platform to present an important African story to audiences at home and internationally.
