Nairobi will become the meeting point for the continent’s creative energy and tourism ambitions this October, as the inaugural Spirit of Africa Festival takes centre stage at the historic Uhuru Gardens from 6 to 8 October 2026.
Announced as the official cultural side-event of the Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE 2026) and endorsed by the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB), the three-day festival carries the powerful theme “Africa, In One Place.”
Organisers describe it as a deliberate response to one of the continent’s long-standing tourism paradoxes: while international visitors arrive in growing numbers, leisure travel between African countries remains underdeveloped.
It is a gap that speaks directly to the vision behind IPADA and the East-West Africa Amalgamation, both of which seek to encourage Africans and people of African descent to experience the continent beyond the boundaries of individual countries.
Rather than viewing Africa as a collection of isolated destinations, the vision is to build stronger cultural, tourism, and economic connections between its regions so a visitor arriving in West Africa can see an opportunity to travel, invest, collaborate, and experience East Africa, and vice versa.
“African music, fashion, and art have never respected political borders. Yet our formal tourism platforms have historically operated in silos,” the organisers noted. “Spirit of Africa creates a deliberate space where the business of travel meets the living culture that makes African destinations compelling.”
Initiative Strategist Clara Chinwe Okoro confirmed that the festival will take place at Uhuru Gardens and is designed to cultivate a new generation of intracontinental travellers.
