The Ajip Hall of MUSON Centre will come alive on Saturday, October 17, during the premiere of what is described as the first original account of the slave trade era.

Otunba Olawanle Akinboboye is aiming for another historic milestone as he prepares for the premiere of what he describes as an unarguably original account of the slave trade era in Africa.

The founder of La Campagne Tropicana Beach & Forest Resort believes this revealing artistic and creative endeavour will serve as a blueprint for generations to come on accurate storytelling through the screen.

Speaking with Atunda TV, Otunba Olawanle said, “I wrote Odigbose because I saw the need for Africans to take the forefront in telling our stories. On average, the best-selling movies on African heritage were produced with the input of foreigners. Odigbose is a movie purely produced by Africans, for Africa.”

The film, set in the 18th century, tells the story of two African kingdoms that have lived as neighbours for years. The two kingdoms are named Ulumila and Jontolo. Every twenty years, a royal wrestling match is organised between the princes of both kingdoms to determine who will lead them.

For centuries, the Ulumila Kingdom, known for its massive size, has always emerged victorious in this royal contest. However, this reign comes to an end when Jontolo, known for its smaller size, wins the contest. This does not go down well with Kabie, the King of Ulumila. Consequently, he disowns his son, Kosegbe.

While this contention for power continues, some foreign men arrive in Ulumila in search of slaves. During their search, the foreigners encounter the conflict between the two kingdoms. They decide to arm Ulumila with weapons, an action that causes the already tense situation to spiral into a full-blown war.

The movie is currently being shot at various locations across La Campagne Tropicana Beach & Forest Resort, as well as in Taraba, Lagos, and Ondo states.

Meanwhile, Otunba Olawanle Akinboboye has decided to give Nigerians a taste of the movie by premiering it at the Ajip Hall of MUSON Centre on Friday, October 17, 2026.
