As Africa continues its quest for economic transformation, industrial growth and stronger global partnerships, one international organization has emerged as a strategic ally in advancing the continent’s development agenda, MÜSİAD, the Independent Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association of Türkiye.
For decades, MÜSİAD has built a reputation as one of Türkiye’s most influential business organizations, bringing together thousands of entrepreneurs and investors with a presence spanning numerous countries across the world.
Beyond promoting trade, the organization has increasingly positioned itself as a catalyst for international investment, technology transfer and sustainable economic cooperation.
Its relationship with Africa reached huge significance in 2016 when it entered into a strategic partnership with Motherland Beckons, the continent-building initiative founded by renowned African tourism entrepreneur Otunba Olawanle Akinboboye.
The collaboration was designed to unlock Africa’s enormous economic potential through tourism, commerce, industrialization and diaspora engagement.
The partnership gave birth to the Africa Turkey Trade Centre (ATTC), conceived as a bridge connecting African economies with Turkish industries.
With its headquarters established in Konya, Türkiye, alongside corresponding offices in Lagos and Accra, the initiative was envisioned as a platform to facilitate trade, attract investment, promote technology transfer and strengthen business relationships between Africa and Türkiye.
There were also plans to expand the network across more African countries, creating a continent-wide commercial ecosystem.
Unlike conventional investment partnerships, the collaboration places tourism at the centre of economic development.
The vision recognizes tourism not only as a leisure industry but also as a powerful driver of infrastructure development, job creation, cultural diplomacy and foreign direct investment.
Through Motherland Beckons, Africa’s rich cultural heritage, hospitality, creative industries and investment opportunities are revealed to the global African diaspora and international investors.
MÜSİAD’s extensive business network complements this vision by opening new pathways for industrial partnerships, manufacturing, entrepreneurship and commercial exchange.
The initiative also aligns with a broader continent-building philosophy that seeks to transform Africa from a consumer-driven economy into a production and investment destination.
By encouraging collaboration between governments, private sector operators and international investors, the partnership aims to stimulate wealth creation, reduce poverty and create sustainable employment opportunities, particularly for young Africans.
For Otunba Akinboboye, the vision extends beyond economic statistics. It is about changing global perceptions of Africa by positioning the continent as a destination for innovation, culture, business and opportunity.
This philosophy has inspired several tourism and investment initiatives under the Motherland Beckons umbrella, including diaspora engagement programmes, destination development projects and the ongoing IPADA initiative, all designed to reconnect Africans in the diaspora with their ancestral home while promoting investment across the continent.
As Africa continues to pursue regional integration and sustainable development, partnerships such as that between MÜSİAD and Motherland Beckons demonstrate how international cooperation can support the continent’s long-term aspirations.
