Otunba Wanle Akinboboye’s Expanding Resort Network: Projects Across Nigeria and Africa

By Onyekachi Victoria Philip

Otunba Wanle Akinboboye, founder and president of La Campagne Tropicana Resort Group, has continued to expand his tourism development vision beyond the flagship La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort in Lagos. His projects combine hospitality with African culture, ecotourism, agriculture, entertainment and heritage.

Recent developments are particularly concentrated in Taraba State, where the La Campagne Tropicana Resort Group is working with the state government on a 2,500-hectare agro-ecotourism project spread across 12 locations.

Reports indicate that construction is already underway at some locations, with eco-friendly accommodation and recreational facilities being introduced.

1. La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort — Ikegun, Lagos

This is Akinboboye’s flagship tourism development and the foundation of the La Campagne Tropicana brand. Established from his vision of an African-themed resort, it combines beach, forest and river environments with African architecture, culture, food and hospitality. The resort is located in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos.

2. La Campagne Tropicana Forest, Hills and Caves Resort — Ita Nla, Ondo

The Ondo project brings the La Campagne concept into a mountainous and forest environment. It is designed around the natural landscape of Ita Nla, with hills, caves and forest attractions forming part of the tourism experience. The development has also hosted the Hill Top Carnival, further connecting tourism with entertainment and culture.

3. La Campagne Tropicana Resort — Koton-Karfe, Kogi

Koton-Karfe is one of the destinations where Akinboboye’s resort-development model has previously been established. It forms part of his effort to take African-themed tourism beyond Lagos and develop destinations around Nigeria’s natural and cultural attractions. Recent profiles continue to list Koton-Karfe among the additional resorts associated with his expansion.

4. La Campagne Tropicana Resort — Grand-Bassam, Côte d’Ivoire

Grand-Bassam represents the international side of Akinboboye’s tourism expansion. The destination forms part of the La Campagne vision of creating African-themed tourism products outside Nigeria and connecting different African destinations through culture, hospitality and investment.

5. La Campagne Tropicana Resort — Wolyta Soddo, Ethiopia

Wolyta Soddo in Ethiopia is another international destination associated with Akinboboye’s resort expansion. The project reflects his long-standing ambition to develop tourism products that showcase African identity while creating destinations capable of attracting visitors from within and outside the continent.

The Major Taraba Expansion

The most extensive current development is the La Campagne Tropicana Agro-Ecotourism Resorts project in Taraba State.

The project is a public-private partnership involving the Taraba State Government and La Campagne Tropicana Resort Group. About 2,500 hectares have been allocated across 12 sites, with the development combining tourism, agriculture, leisure and heritage. Some accommodation facilities and recreational infrastructure are already being developed.

6. La Campagne Tropicana Agro-Ecotourism Heritage Resort — Zangon Kombi

Located close to Danbaba Suntai Airport in Jalingo, this is one of the major anchor sites in the Taraba project. It is intended to combine African heritage, accommodation, agriculture and recreational activities while giving visitors an introduction to Taraba’s tourism offerings.

7. La Campagne Tropicana Nwonyo Lake Resort — Ibi

The Nwonyo Lake development is designed around one of Taraba’s major water-based tourism attractions. The project is expected to incorporate African-themed accommodation and leisure activities, making the lake a stronger destination for domestic and international tourists.

8. La Campagne Tropicana Rest Area — Zangon Kombi

Alongside the main resort at Zangon Kombi, a separate rest-area development is planned. The facility is part of the wider tourism network and is intended to provide visitors with accommodation and stopping facilities as they move through the Taraba tourism corridor.

9. La Campagne Tropicana Rest Area — Mahula, Bali

The Mahula project is another supporting tourism facility within the Taraba network. Its location in Bali provides an additional point for tourists travelling through the state’s developing tourism routes.

10. La Campagne Tropicana Rest Area — Gayam, Gashaka

The Gayam development forms part of the Gashaka section of the Taraba tourism network. Its purpose is to provide supporting accommodation and visitor facilities within an area known for its natural attractions.

11. La Campagne Tropicana Agro-Ecotourism Heritage Resort — Mayo Selbe, Gashaka

Mayo Selbe is planned as an agro-ecotourism and heritage destination. The project connects tourism with the area’s natural environment while incorporating agriculture and cultural heritage into the visitor experience.

12. La Campagne Tropicana Rest Area — Biyudasisi, Mambilla

Biyudasisi is one of the supporting rest areas planned for the Mambilla axis. It is expected to strengthen the accommodation network serving tourists exploring the plateau and surrounding attractions.

13. La Campagne Tropicana Agro-Tourism Heritage Resort — Abong Kurmi

The Abong Kurmi project is designed around the combination of agriculture, tourism and heritage. Rather than treating farming and tourism as separate activities, the model seeks to turn agricultural landscapes and local culture into part of the tourism experience.

14. La Campagne Tropicana Eco-Tourism Resort — Nagadasda

Nagadasda is another full eco-tourism resort location within the 2,500-hectare Taraba initiative. It forms part of the network being developed to spread tourism activity across multiple communities instead of concentrating it in one urban centre.

15. La Campagne Tropicana Rest Area — Gurgu, Mambilla

Gurgu is planned as a rest-area facility on the Mambilla axis. Its role is to support tourists travelling between the different attractions and resort locations being developed across Taraba.

16. La Campagne Tropicana Kwararafa Rest Area — Gasol

The Gasol development is known as the La Campagne Tropicana Kwararafa Rest Area. It is part of the wider network of facilities intended to improve tourism movement, accommodation and visitor experiences across Taraba.

17. Arinta Waterfall Tourism Development — Ipole-Iloro, Ekiti

The Arinta Waterfall project is one of the newer tourism-development interests associated with Akinboboye in 2026. He visited the site in Ekiti during an investment-focused tourism engagement with the state. The project is aimed at developing the natural waterfall and its surrounding environment into a stronger tourism destination.
